I never thought overcoming procrastination could hit you like a ton of bricks from a random chapter in a book you’ve read more than a few times, but this is what happened to me, and I am going to share it with you, cause I know it will produce the same reaction in you.

So here is what happened:
I always go back to reread my self-help books. Most of the time it is as a result of a slight nudge from the Universe, that is how I found this gem in Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich.

Yes, I confess, I do procrastinate, and so I tend to listen to anything with the word procrastination in it. Here is the quote from Napoleon Hill

PROCRASTINATION

“This is one of the most common causes of failure. “Old Man Procrastination” stands within the shadow of every human being, waiting for his opportunity to spoil one’s chances of success. Most of us go through life as failures, because we are waiting for the “time to be right” to start doing something worthwhile. Do not wait. The time will never be “just right.” Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.”

First I will ask you to forgive Mr. Hill’s harsh arrangement of words, he wrote the book in 1937, but once again if that is what it takes to plant a sledgehammer in your procrastination bowl of cereal, then that is what we needed. (more…)

Is it time to face your fear and get your house in order? What is holding you back? Are you bogged down by debt, bad relationships you will not face up to, your past mistakes, or are you in such a rut that you cannot even begin to see a starting point?

Well, that is what I am giving you here, a starting point. If fear is what is holding you back, then it is time to face that fear. I have created a three-step fear detox that I turn to whenever I feel fear trying to get its talons into me. I know these steps will help you too. I mostly believe step number three is the key.

The Three-Step Fear Detox

Step One

Make a list of the top five “biggest” things you have in your life right now.

I am not talking about things like clearing clutter, except if you are a candidate for that famous TV show, but clutter is a symptom, not the fear itself. We’re digging deeper than that. So, I am talking about feeling overwhelmed, fear of losing a job, bills, bad relationships, illness: the big things. I realize that what might be big for you might not be for others, no one is judging you. (more…)
